Day 1. Windhoek -Erongo Wilderness Lodge (262 Km)

Upon arrival at Windhoek, we have a light snack before heading north with little time to waste on city life. Our first destination is the stunning Erongo Wilderness Lodge. Lunch is eaten en route. Upon arrival, you will have some free time just to relax and rest after your flight. The stunning granite hills and vegetation makes for a very good place after our drive. A sundowner will be had on top of one of these granite outcrops, overlooking the Omaruru River Valley. Our next destination, Brandberg, can be seen from this vantage point.

Day 2. Erongo Wilderness - Ugab Wilderness (177 Km)

After an early morning breakfast, we head for for Omaruru. A quick stop at the famous "Sand Dragon" for some memrobalia, and then towards the Ugab River.

A brief lunch break along the way allows us a chance for a cool breather under the shade of a camel thorn tree. The open space and vastness of Namibia will unfold as we drive to the Ugab Wilderness Campsite. Nestled on the banks of the Ugab river, camp will be set up, and then we are off in search of the elusive desert dwelling elephants. We will drive in the Ugab River bed until these gentle giants are spotted, and then from a safe distance, we will just sit and observe their behaviour and antics. Camping under the beautiful African night skies will become a highlight every night.

Day 3. Ugab Wilderness -Twyfelfontein Area (150 Km)

After a leiserly breakfast, we head North, towrds Twyfelfontein. The drive will take us through the dune fields and past the Doros Crater. Stunning desert scenery enhanced by the possiblilty of spotting other game as well will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Upon arrival at Twyfelfontein, we will relax during the hottest hours of the day, and then take another drive in search of the elusive desert Elephants. This time we drive in the Aba-Huab river. Dinner and a well earned rest in the luxuriuos Twyfelfontein Country Lodge will be appreciated by one and all.

Day 4. Twyfelfontein - Okaukeujo (367 Km)

We leave the desert elephants of Damaraland behind, and continue our tour to Etosha, the "crown prince" of Namibian national parks. Okaukeujo will be the end of the road today. Sitting at the waterhole and watching a huge variety of game species is the natural thing to do. The possibility of spotting elephants is quite likely, and observing from your bench, you will clearly see the difference between the desert elephants we wil have spotted in the dry river beds and those found here in Etosha. A scrumptious dinner prepared on an open fire does not mean the end of another day. The waterhole is floodlit, so you can relax there again in the cool of the night, watching the starry skies, as well as observing the nightlife that visits the waterhole.

Day 5. Okaukuejo - Onguma Camp site (160 Km)

Today will be spent game viewing. Some of the best game viewing in the world if truth be told! Driving from Okaukuejo, we will visit various waterholes. We continue our search for elephants, but we will surely see other types of game as well. We will break for lunch in Halali, the smallest rest camp in Etosha. From Halali, we drive further east and exit Etosha at Namutoni. Here we make a brief stop to visit a fasinating German fort and then make our way to breathtaking Onguma. Onguma is a game farm that has been turned into a nature reserve. Bordering on Etosha, Onguma boasts a large variety of game species that can also be found in Etosha. The campsite is of a very high standard, and absolutely magical to say the least!

Day 6. Onguma - Tsumkwe Lodge (420 Km)

We start our day with a healthy breakfast at Onguma, and then we leave for Tsumkwe, capital of Bushmenland and home to the biggest elephants in Namibia. We will pass through the sleepy towns of Tsumeb and Grootfontein before we head into the Kalahari Desert. Bushmenland is the traditional homeland of the San people in Namibia. Upon our arrival we will rest a bit at the Tsumkwe Lodge. A trip to the Naye-Naye pans, part of the first established conservancy in Namibia, will herald the end of this day. The facilities at Tsumkwe lodge are basic, but full of character. The atmoshphere is relaxed and friendly.

Day 7. Tsumkwe - Sikeretti (60 Km)

Leaving Tsumkwe, we first visit the ‘Grootboom' or ‘Giant Boabab' tree. These giants of the plant kingdom are an amazing sight to behold. From there, we enter the Khaudum Game Reserve. Passing by several waterholes in the Suothern part of the Khaudum, our search for elephants continues. We camp under the stars at Sikeretti.

Day 8. Sikeretti - Khaudum (140 Km)

Passing by several waterholes in the Suothern part of the Khaudum, our search for elephants continues. The woodland savanna of the Khaudum is an ideal area for elephants, as it supplies all of their dietary needs. Thus, in this park, you are guaranteed to see these giants. These are the biggest tuskers in Namibia and are enormous in body size. We camp in the Khaudum Camp, on the banks of the Khaudum Omaramba, the name for a dry water course in these parts of the world. A big and very tasty meal will once again be prepared for you by your guide, using the heat from an open fire.

Day 9. Khaudum - Ngepi (200 Km)

From Khaudum we head north, on the notoriously difficult stretch of road called the "Golden Highway", 60 km of extreme sandy roads, taking up to 4 hours to complete in some cases. Once we are back on the paved road, we follow the Okavango River as it flows towards Botswana. Our destination for the night is Ngepi Camp. Situated on the west bank of the Okavango River, the campsite, tree huts and bungalows relay a scene of tranquility and peace.

Sitting on the bank of the river, listening to the cry of an African fish eagle, or the grunt of hippos, and the true meaning of life comes to mind.

(B,L,D)

Day 10. Mahango Area (50 Km)

From Popa Falls, we travel to Mahango Game Reserve, 15 km from our camp. Here, your first opportunity to see the river elephants arises. With the Kavango river as a life-giver to thousands of species, elephants congregate to feed on the vegetation and to cool themselves in the river. We spend another night at Ngepi Camp.

(B,L)

Day 11. Ngepi - Roy's Camp (410 Km)

We start our journey back to Windhoek by camping at Roy's Rest Camp. Driving past small villages, we get to experience the rural homeland of the Kavango people. Local crafts can be purchased en route and in Rundu, which we will pass through.

Once we are at Roy's Camp, an afternoon stroll in the area will be great way to stretch your legs a bit. Again, the campsite is of high standard, and very pleasant. This will be your last night in Namibia, so a feast is planned. A traditional ‘braai'with meat, kebabs, butternut, and then some dessert as well is the perfect way to spend you last evening here.

The silence of an African night will lull you to a deep and peaceful sleep.

(B,L)

Day 12. Roy's Camp - Windhoek (552 Km)

From Roy's Rest Camp, we continue south to Windhoek, stopping along the way at the Okahandja wood carvers' stalls for more memorabilia shopping. For the last time on this tour, you will experience the vast and open spaces that Namibia has to offer. The 34th largest country in the world and 2nd least populated after Mongolia. This is Namibia for you.

Thus your Elephant tour concludes, and you can say that you have seen the "Salt Pans" , "Desert", "Woodland" and "River" Elephants if all went well. And even in the rare circumstance that you were not able to see all these gems, you can still proudly say that you saw the heart of Africa ... Namibia!
