You will be collected at your hotel at 08:00 after a brief introduction by your guide the trip will start as we head to the Moon landscape. Following a gravel road we enter the Namib Naukluft Park proper, when we pass the boundary fence. We immediately turn north and also have our first stop to observe some of the lichens found in this area. Lichens are plants that consist of a fungus and algae, so living in a symbiotic harmony.

Namib Naukluft Park

Following the gravel road we have another stop at the first view point. Driving over vast gravel plain the sight of the moon landscape appears suddenly. From here you can see a large portion of the moon landscape. The area is called this, because it resembles the surface of the moon. Erosion has created this artwork of nature.

The different colours and the numerous gulleys and valleys will keep you enthralled for a long time. We have another stop at another view point. This view point also focus on the moon landscape, but if you turn around 180 degrees, you will see the vast gravel plains as well.

Following the corrugated gravel road we cross the Swakop River and continue north to go and see the oldest plant in the world. The Welwitchia mirabilis is found in huge numbers in this area. Mainly small plants, but the big Welwitchia is where we are heading. This plant is enclosed in a fence to protect it from people getting too close. A raised walkway will give you ample photographic opportunity with no hindrance of the fence. Your guide will give you a in depth talk about this amazing plant, and also show you to differentiate between male and female plants.

For lunch we head to the airport campsite. This site is a dug out that is covered by a roof, and with chairs and tables inside it. It provides shade and is quite cool, hence a good spot for lunch. Lunch will be an array of fresh breads and rolls, accompanied by cheese and cold meats. Freshly made salads will also be served. Fruit juice and sparkling wine round off this tasteful lunch.

After lunch we head back to Swakopmund via another route. Hopefully we will see some game in the form of Ostrich, Springbuck and Baboons.
You will be dropped at your hotel at about 17:00
